sheriff officers (scotland/england)

Can someone tell me if Scottish sheriff officers who are chasing council tax debt, can they visit you if your living in england ( but the property in question is in scotland)?

do they travel to england? or do they send english sheriff officers instead? or do they do nothing as its a different country? or does it not make a difference?

thanks

To enforce an English council tax debt in Scotland you have to apply via the Scottish courts, I would presume the same applies in reverse.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

i would have thought they would just instruct bailiffs then if you were living in England as sheriff's officers can only enforce in Scotland. I may be wrong :(

Ordinarily they would but with it being a different legal system it has to via a court first - bailiffs would then be the equivalent action.

No - in the same way an action in England can be enforced by Sheriff Officers in Scotland, the reverse is true. A SO has no jurisdiction in E&W, so would not 'visit you'. But they would simply instruct a Bailiff who is licenced to act as their enforcement (and this almost doubles the charges).

There is no need to have the action reheard in an English court.
