Help! Applying online for a job - but am stuck : (

Hi,

Trust me to leave things to the last minute but I am applying online for a job for a well known homeless charity.

You don't submit a CV, but create an account, then you can fill in sections one at a time, save it, log out, then come back later and fill in more.

This is called a competency-based application form. Well, I'm about to fail that!:p

There are like 7 sections to complete, and this bit is nicked from there website:

Each section of the application form has a ‘tick here to mark this section as completed’ box. Once you have completed a section, tick this box and Save. A tick will also appear next to each section to show that you have completed it.

Once you have completed all the sections, choose the ‘Submit here’ button to submit your application form.

You must mark all sections as complete and ‘Submit’ on the application form, otherwise the recruiting manager won’t receive your application.

Fair enough....

But, I clicked on one section called "Education Establishments", it allows you to add details if you have obtained a degree level qualification (or above), please use this section to indicate which education institutions you have attended.

You will not need to provide information on your schools/6th form colleges.

Well, that doesn't apply to thick old me, but then it won't let me click "Mark this section as complete" and save it!

It says: You must enter at least one education establishment.

... but this section doesn't apply to me. So all I can do is return to the summary page then sign out. There is no option to submit my application as rightfully not all the sections are complete, but it won't let me mark the "Education Establishments" part as complete as you can't leave it blank. Sorry for repeating myself. I am stuck in a loop.

There is NO telephone number or anything to ring and the closing date is tomorrow, Wednesday 21st November :(:(:(

:wall::wall::wall:

Also, there is nowhere on the form to give names and addresses of referees. I know I'm jumping the gun and haven't been out of work for the last 15 years, but I thought references were an essential part of a job application? Anyway, that's not my worry....

Anyone help me please ASAP?

:o

Have you tried putting anything in that section? Will it let you move on if you put in something like "This section is not applicable to me"?
:D Ariadna just beat me to it.

  • Aaaaaaargh, it's a glitch. No matter what I put, it just keeps saying:

You must enter at least one education establishment.

It's like clicking this section is a trap unless you have further education.

Thanks for the help, I'm off to sulk and wrack my brain for a solution, darn it.

Welcome to the world of upcoming unemployment eh? Sigh :(

If you haven't been to uni I read it as you should put your school and results from there.

Also I wouldnt worry about references - a lot of companies don't ask until they are ready to make a job offer.
  • I've obviously failed my first online competency-based application form, LOL

But it ain't funny really :(

  • Is there anything like 'none' or 'not applicable' in the drop down box for college/university?

  • Speaking of references, my boss said I can put her down, but she's being made redundant on the same day as me. Gawd help me now :(

Be back later if I can stand the stress :(
