Poundland water bottle corrosion

Options
I picked up an aluminium water bottle from Poundland in the camping section a while back, to try and cut down on buying water in Boots etc. Just noticed what appears to be corrosion inside. I'm not going to use it any more, is destined for the bin, but wondered if anyone knows if this is a health hazzard? thanks

I think you did the right thing by throwing the bottle away, a small amount of rust probably wont kill you but I'd expect it to make you a bit ill. I would have thought if anything that bacteria would be able to breed where the rust is as it would be harder to keep clean. I don't know too much about metal poisoning or too much about the amounts you need to intake to qualify for toxidity but do know it exists.

  • MSE have kindly given us permission to post on the forum.

Max3456 I am sorry that your product was not in satisfactory working order, and would like to try and get to the bottom of why.

We are keen to find out more about this product and in the background we have had an aluminium bottle tested with our quality department and this showed no sign of a problem.

However, In order for us to do a thorough investigation and ensure that we have the right product we were hoping that we could get a better description of the bottle, or if you haven't disposed of it a picture or the product itself.

Would it be possible for you to contact us so we can liaise with you on the detail of this product?

If you private message me I will give you contact details.

    Kind Regards,
    Lynsey (Poundland)
  • Oooh, I think I have the same water bottle, metallic solid body with a black plastic topper yeah? will check mine tomorrow now, but I've only used it camping and not regularly so maybe not so problematic. You do get rust on camping metal crockery etc though in general after a while. It's effectively where the enamel cracks off (common at edges).

Whilst there is a Poundland rep on here tho, can I just applaud you on your camping range. As a girl guide leader it's made your shop my first point of call for camps. I think I have most of the camping range! Oh and the cups of hot drinks you do where you just pour in hot water...AMAZE!
