Gifts for someone having chemotherapy?

books? itunes voucher, anything to pass the time really. the actual chemo can be long going so having a distraction is good. or something to look forward to when treatment has finished??
what about some kind of hamper of there favourite foods.
i think just being normal is the key, giving a gift specifically to do with the fact there havin chemo might be a bad idea. make them feel like thats all people see and not them as a person
hope that helps

Something that I would've liked whilst in hospital and suffering from chronic and constant vomiting, was some packets of Simple wipes, like baby wipes but for my face, neck and hands.
No idea how close you are to your person, so may not be appropriate but I would've appreciated it.0 -
Hiya, my Mum would only use the red packaged Dove items eg shampoo, bubble bath etc.whist having chemo. She said it was because they didn't have a certain ingredient in them, but I can't remember what it was sorry.
Perhaps you could put a hamper together of all their stuff, then it will seem like a normal present.0 -

I read a mag article recently that had suggestion for people to make up a hamper for someone going through chemo. Can't remember everything but some of the ideas were mags for reading, something to strengthen nails, humerous rubber gloves- for anyone still needing to do housework and pineapple due to taste being affected.0

What about something like an e-reader?
Or perhaps fun things like Where's Wally books to pass away the hours?
a drinks bottle for taking in drink to hospital rather than buying whilst there, maybe a thermo one for cold drinks (I heard cold items help during).

All my mum wanted when she was on chemo was pineapple, puzzles books/wordsearches and jigsaws - something she could easily start then leave and go back to it later
An mp3 and headphones and something like a digital photo frame sound like great ideas and I'm sure any of them would be well appreciated************************************

Hi,
My mum was given a book by her friend called "Talk to the headscarf" by Emma Hannigan when she was going through Chemo she found it very uplifting, lighthearted and positive just the kind of thing she needed at that time, and has passed it round to all of us to have a read to help us all understand what shes going through.0 -
If female a voucher for a Shellac manicure would be nice - it protects the nails throughout the chemo, especially with a dark colour, and is a nice treat as it's still a beauty treatment not just a nail polish. Or a food hamper with lots of treats but obviously nothing like pate/soft cheeses (basically anything that can't be eaten during pregnancy I think.)
I'd be leaning toward 'normal' gifts and not something that makes it an obvious "because you have cancer" present. Comfy dressing gowns/slippers/pyjamas might be good, and a magazine subscription is a nice idea anyway as it's a gift that keeps on giving! A luxury beauty product like Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream might be nice but it depends on the particular side effects from the chemo, if there is any skin irritation.0 -
Why does having radio/chemotherapy change what you buy for someone? My dad had both, lost all his hair, but still drank beer/wine, still ate sweets, still read books and still wore aftershave, so the year he had cancer we bought him exactly what we have always bought him.0
