Run out of baking powder

Hi all,

Just a quick question, I've just run out of baking powder but have a cake to make this afternoon...

I have plain flour, self raising flour and bicarbonate of soda, what's the best combination to use when the recipe calls for plain flour and baking powder?

TIA

I would substitute with SR flour and omit any salt if the recipe calls for it too. I have substituted baking powder with baking soda but moreso for 'flat' recipes like brownie than a cake that you want to rise more. I almost always use SR flour for cakes unless it's particularly fancy American recipe I'm trying or something

Self-rising flour is typically composed of the following ratio:
    • 1 cup (110 g) flour
    • 1 teaspoon (3 g) baking powder
    • a pinch to ½ teaspoon (1 g or less) salt

I'd just use self-raising flour & wouldn't add anything else to it. I've got a recipe that I adapt according to what I've got in. The original says plain flour & bicarb of soda, but the cake comes out just the same with baking powder & the same again with self-raising flour, so I wouldn't worry about it.
