Secret Santa

Hi All

I have been wondering about broaching the subject of secret santa with my family. Not immediate family, but for the extended family.

Up until recently I gave presents to my huband, his parents, his sister and partner, my parents, my mums 4 brothers, their wives, my 2 cousins, my dads 2 sisters, their husbands, my 4 cousins and their partners, and now my cousins' children  I think the reason my mums family have continued to give presents to each other is partly to keep the memory of my grandparents alive, and also because until recently there were no children on my mums side of the family (I am the only one of my cousins on my mum's side to have a baby) I don't want to suggest that people only buy children as my daughter would be the only one to get a present and is insentitive to my cousins who can't have children but its getting out of control!!

On my dads side we have agreed just to buy the children, which is fine. We are all happy with that. :)

On my mums side its just too much. Now 2 of my uncles and their wives live abroad, another lives in Ireland and one of my cousins is in Scanadanavia you also have to factor in postage costs (even amazon has a minimum spend for free delivery) When the second or third uncle left the UK, someone mentioned the idea of not buying christmas presents and no one liked that idea "But I *like* buying presents!" etc. I don't like the idea either (I am the biggest kid in the street and get super excited and dewy eyed about christmas) but its just too much.

The reason I am mentioning that they all live abroad is that we won't be able to do a secret santa draw in person which would mean it wouldn't be so secret. Of my 4 uncles & aunts, only 1 has children (who are the same ages as me) but the other 3 uncles/aunts don't, so I can't even suggest joint presents. Any suggestions on how to handle this are welcome.
Marie
