Even before your husband died ?

But is this because the Bank changed this after your husband died.

When he was alive were they addressed to your husband?

I have a credit card and my wife is an authorised card holder, the card has her name on it, but the account is mine and the statement is in my name. The cards have exactly the same number, but this is still my account solely. She doesn't even appear as a linked record in my credit reference because of this. She is only linked via the joint loan we have.

I would send £2 to the credit credit reference agency's and see what credit you actually have via your credit reports.

These heavy tactics by lenders against the bereaved always annoy me.

You are not required to meet your husbands' debts although you were his spouse and the status of that account at the bank is incredibly important. You need this information immediately.

Secondly, you are not required to make yourself destitute even to fulfull your own obligations, so you are perfectly entitled to WRITE to your creditors stating your altered circumstance, the reason and what you are PREPARED to offer in this case.

Since you have no assets to speak of they cant get any heavier with you. You have avenues to explore here, but start with a warning tone letter establishing the situation and that this situation is likely to be for the long term.

Finally, check out this : https://www.gov.uk/funeral-payments/eligibility

It might be of interest but I dont know if it applies in your situation right now.

Just filling in the form they sent asking income and expenditure, will enclose letter stating I am paying funeral expenses ,which will be finished November 2013, and I will be willing to increase payments then , but until then I am offering 20 pounds a month, I applied for grants etc but was turned down ,as we had a funeral plan and the amount they allow does not cover much .

I wouldn't complete that form. Just tell them what you can afford to pay them. They can't force you to give the information. Your income and expenditure is nothing to do with the bank.
