I think I'd do a ham hock in the slow cooker, pull all the lovely meat off & serve it with home-made parsley or chive sauce, potatoes (however you like them) & a couple of different veg. You'll most likely get some left over for sandwiches too. Last ham hock I cooked (Fri) cost £3.00 from a deli......possibly could be found cheaper elsewhere.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Hello, have you considered cooking something quick when you get in rather than a slow roast? Jamie Oliver (my new BFF) has a whole new series on Channel 4 called 15 minute meals and there are some wonderful ideas, all quick, easy and fairly low cal whilst looking very cheffy and impressive. I picked up a small lamb leg portion from tesco frozen for around £5, it is a decent size so think it would stretch for roast dinner and leftovers, a good price for lamb I think.
I was looking at lamb shoulder but it looked like an awful lot of fat and not much meat?

The one I got was £5.50 it is on special offer at the moment
