I think I'd do a ham hock in the slow cooker, pull all the lovely meat off & serve it with home-made parsley or chive sauce, potatoes (however you like them) & a couple of different veg. You'll most likely get some left over for sandwiches too. Last ham hock I cooked (Fri) cost £3.00 from a deli......possibly could be found cheaper elsewhere.

  • Hello, have you considered cooking something quick when you get in rather than a slow roast? Jamie Oliver (my new BFF) has a whole new series on Channel 4 called 15 minute meals and there are some wonderful ideas, all quick, easy and fairly low cal whilst looking very cheffy and impressive. You can catch up on 4od or on the channel 4 website

I picked up a small lamb leg portion from tesco frozen for around £5, it is a decent size so think it would stretch for roast dinner and leftovers, a good price for lamb I think.
I was looking at lamb shoulder but it looked like an awful lot of fat and not much meat?
