Hopefully have a job..... :)

So yesterday I got a lovely email saying I am a 'preferred candidate'.
Yay.
They're checking my references and I've an occupational health form to fill out (which I have done and sent back last night). I also need to get a letter from the JC confirming I get JSA and my signing dates :S
I think that's because I used my signing book as proof of my NI.
I also need to wait for my PVG to be updated, but seen as i'm already a member this should be quite quick.
The post doesn't start until 28/01/2013 (ish, not confirmed 100% yet) so once I get an actual 'formal offer of employment' do I still sign on?
If so, what do I do if i'm offered a role by another place? The job i'm hopefully going to be offered is something i'd really enjoy and can see it really helping me to get where I want to be in my career.
Would I have to take it?
Can I refuse?
Would they take my JSA off me if I did?
I've been on JSA since 08/06/2012, so on the basis of me possibly starting work on 28/01/2012 what 'back to work' benefits would I be able to get?
Technically I am still a lone parent, although I do have an OH, he doesn't live with me (but will in March/April we've not set a date yet but he is moving in and once he does I will let the appropriate places know.
)

Do you wish to still claim JSA? If so you still need to be looking for full time employment, signing on, doing any directions the advisor gives you. Hopefully they won't be annoying and send you on a work placements or something, not unheard of.
If a job comes up between now and then you should take it, but TBH, you can only lead a horse to water, if you don't want the job and you wondered into an interview, you can throw the interview so you don't get it.
'What is the pay like?'
'On scale of 1-10 how hard is this job?'
etc
I don't know about other benefits, sorry.0 -

Unfortunately, seen as it's my only source of income at the moment I would have to continue 'signing on' to get my benefits.
I don't think I would have the nerve to waste a companies time, so throwing an interview probably wouldn't be an option for me. Damn my morals.
Another question that's popped into my head...
Say when I do get a formal job offer, and I get my official start date.. it will be sometime in late January as it's 8 weeks of training and they've said they don't want to do this over the Christmas period (it's a busy period for them.. not retail though
)
Could I let tax credits (I'll be applying for the childcare side of tax credits too), housing (The salary is £16,000 ish (can't remember exactly) ect... know of this and hopefully have everything ready for the big switch over? So that it just happens automatically? Or do I need to be in my job before I can do this?0 -
Hi, well done on the job :-) You are best off not letting any of these people know about your job until the day before you start, as it could confuse your claims. I have done this before, and it gets complicated. However, do have all the info you will need such as your salary details and registered childcare details and registration numbers prepared, so that when the time does come you have them to hand.
Also, I'm sure this won't happen, but there is always a possibility of a job falling through, then you would have to change your claims again.0 -
I needed to tell the JC as they wanted a letter off them confirming my receipt of JSA. Will that mess up my claim?
this is the first time i've ever had JSA so i'm not fully clued in on it0 -
Have you still got your orignal letter from the JSA, thats states your entitled to JSA. I think you can use that.
I hope you get the job.0 -

Congratulations - hopefully the job will happen.
Yes, continue signing on for JSA until the job starts and then complete the ES40 ( small signing on book ). You will then get 4 weeks run of housing benefit. Your jobcentre may also have a process where you can email the information in.
On JSA you have to be actively seeking work. If you have a written email / letter from the employer with a start date then this may satisfy the jobcentre staff. But my advice would be to continue applying to jobs and providing that evidence fortnightly.
You may find a better job then the one planned to start in Jan. Also there is no guarantee in the future. I know of a jobseeker who was informed by text on a Friday that he was not required when due to start a job the following Monday - and that was a senior admin job in a local council.
If you are offered a job but refuse it simply do not tell the jobcentre. I don't know why people think the jobcentre is like the Tower of Mordor with an all seeing eye. All adviser sanctions take place because of what the jobseeker has told the adviser.
The gov.uk site is not particularly user friendly but all the info you need about benefits will be there.0 -

Thank you very much, I'm hoping it'll come to something.
And thanks for the advice. Once I get a formal offer (hopefully it shouldn't be too long i'll show it to my advisor and see what she says.. unless someone comes along and tells me not to.)0
