Unusual venues

Are they naff or great? I really fancy (if I ever get proposed to) getting married in a museum or something. Some of the ones here have their exhibitions licensed for civil ceremonies and a hall for receptions.

Fun or twee?

I think the venue has to appeal to you and reflects the type of couple you are...

In some ways if you love the outdoors its a shame to get married inside...if youre into history why marry in a modern building...

I think its lovely when a couple choose their venue or even a theme to their wedding that is so suited to their personality...thats the type of touch that will make your wedding memorable and personalise it

Possibly what you dont want to do is get married in something like a circus big top on a whim and look back in years to come at the photos and say ...."what were we thinking...."

I acnt agree with LEJC more.

We are getting married at Crusoes in Tynemouth. Which is a cafe on a beach! To some an absolute horror of a venue, to us its our dream venue! OH kitesurfs and I love being on the beach watching him, everything about the venue reflects us as a couple. We have spents hours planning the day to reflect us as a couple, all our friends will see the unique-ness of silly little things.

What kind of venue were you thinking of? Can u tailor it to you both somehow?
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • Ahhh 74jax you're a Northerner! I know Crusoes, I like it :)

The Discovery Museum or the Hancock :) we both like mad things, and I like science!

  • aw crusoes is lush! I was thinking of that as a venue but my ex lives in Tynemouth so changed my mind. We looked at the Discovery / Hancock on the TW museums website and they looked amazing. The room sizes weren't right for us but I think they would be great. The only reservation I had is that I thought it might feel a bit corporate-drinks-reception-y ...?
There is an added benefit of somewhere like that though = in the city centre so easy for all your guests to get to! x

Well I got married in a Zoo. It's really popular now and the actual building they use is lovely, and there's beautiful garden areas. I know of several people who've married there just because it is somewhere different but also gorgeous.
In our case it was partly those reasons but also is very special to us. We are zoo members so go there loads anyway and it was first place we got our kids to all meet each other.
I wouldn't have changed it for the world
  • I think I saw your photos, did you post some on here? If so, how beautiful :)

I think I posted this blog from our photographer as he'd got the best zoo pics...in the one where hubby and I are laughing a bit deranged at each other you can make out some dark blobs in the background which are chimps!
There was another bride who married at Edinburgh Zoo also posted some pics too somewhere

Ooohh I am the bride that Ellay is referring to! Haven't been on here in ages (eventually managed to ween myself off this website after the wedding!). We got married at Edinburgh Zoo as we are massive animal lovers and we also love Edinburgh (we are actually going back for Christmas dinner at the zoo!) so it was the perfect venue for us. We booked it without having even seen inside the house (we had seen the zoo but not the house) as we just knew it was where we wanted to marry. Here is the link to our photographer's blog about our wedding

I think you should marry in a venue that suits you as a couple; be that traditional, modern, unusual etc as that is where you are likely to be happiest :)
