Not a single penny more...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/eu/9687187/Not-a-single-penny-more-for-the-EUs-begging-bowl.html

A surprisingly good read by Boris Johnson on why it makes sense not to increase the EU budget.

Classic quote
The people in Brussels must have been out of their tiny minds. It is like giving heroin to an addict. It is like handing an ice cream to the fattest boy in the class, while the rest of the kids are on starvation diets — and then asking them to pay for his treat.

An interesting read misskool. My cyncial view the european union is as a gravy train body, for mep's, ex mp's and their friends. It certainly misspends a large amount of money it's allocated.

Yep, if they want trust, they need to sort themselves out and be cleaner than clean. In it's current form it's a mess. A pity. I like the idea of collective european bargaining/influence, free trade e.t.c. just not in current form of backroom deals and financial irregularity. Perhaps I'm naive - and it comes with the territory (politics).

There's a brilliant cartoon in the same edition:

David Cameron going into a 60th anniversary performance of The Eurotrap, Angela Merkel sitting impassively at the box office.
"Don't tell me the ending" says Cameron.
