  • PILON - u are still classed as being in remunative work untill the pilon ends.

I work for DWP and word is that compensation payments (pilon/holiday) will soon no longer be taken in to account

Does anyone know what happens if your PILON is delayed - I have been made redundant today but have to claim my redundancy pay / a weeks wages I am owed plus PILON from the DTI.
Can I claim JSA straight away as I have nothing to live on untill the DTI pay me what I am owed.

it will be taken in to account still, as you WILL recieve the money, any holidays owed to you will also taken in to account and added on to the end of the pilon, if u recieve holiday pay 4 weeks after its due it will be treated as capital ~(unless of course you claim in cont only, not income based)

Please bear with me Just stumbled across this thread and have quite a long post.

My son was informed by his employer last week (12 April) that due to lack of work he was no longer required. He had only been working for them from 5 Feb (having given up a permanent job to do so).

When he was told he asked his boss what he wanted him to do and was told he could go there and then and he would pay him until the end of the month which would give him time to try to find another job. As this is the first time (and us his parents) he has experienced this he took it at face value and came home. He hasn't contacted the Job Centre yet because like others who have posted he didn't think he qualified until the end of the month when his pay expires.

He received a payslip yesterday dated 31 April 07 which was no different from previous ones and in the envelope was his P60 and a compliment slip dated 17 April from his ex-boss just casually stating "Hi Paul, your salary should be in your account now, Cheers Richard".

He has not been given any formal letter of notice or anything and therefore isn't exactly sure what his termination is classed as - redundancy or laid off nor has he received his P45. The firm is a franchise of the International company Printing.Com based in Warrington and it looks like the HO run the payroll.

What do you think he should do? I have suggested that he should contact this Richard to find out exactly what the situation is so that when he does sign on the information he provides won't conflict with the employer when contacted.

It all sounds very strange but my son was told at the time of being laid off or whatever that the franchise hadn't been doing very well but the owner thought by taking on a new account manager this might improve. However, it did not but as he was only with them for less than 10 weeks this was hardly surprising. It also fell in quite nicely for his boss who went off to India for 4 weeks during this time to visit his son who he hadn't seen for 5 yrs and as the only other employee was a young lady by employing my son it covered him quite nicely under the lone worker policy.

We also think this may have been brought to a head as my son had to travel 35+ miles each way a day to his work and as his car is very old he had started looking into getting a loan to purchase a newer vehicle. My son feels in support of his employer that he probably made his decision to finish him early as he probably would have felt even worse terminating his contract if he had taken out the loan. He does feel a bit used though.

Sorry to ramble on but I am not sure how to advise him for the best. Hope someone can make some sense of this for us to steer him in the right direction.

All advice would be greatly received.
