is this the kind of device walkers use instead of a map ?

nope - i have tried numerous GPS devices and none replace walking maps - you just can't get the scale (unless you carry around a 15" widescreen laptop - then the OS maps are pretty good!). I tried the OS maps downloaded onto a pocket pc and this was NEARLY useable - as long as you poltted a route first with a proper map! GPS nav devices are fab to help you get from a to b on roads tho (most of the time!)

I was about to post this offer from Maplin on these forums, but did a search first to check no-one else had. (hence finding this thread).

Has anyone tried this unit? Is it any good? What are the maps like? What is the speed of the unit like? Does it give spoken directions? Can it auto-recalculate the route? Can it store imported map locations? (I need to find LPG filling stations as my car runs on LPG and a GPS that I can upload the data to, would save me heaps of time hunting for elusive garages when I need a fill up in a far flung location!)

Also, what is the quality of the MP3 player?
