Finance Roles with no official qualification

  • That's all you can do given the increasing reliance on jobsites by recruiters. As I said, it would be unworkable to have umpteen version of your CV uploaded to jobsites even though they actually allow this.

For company application forms, just cut 'n' paste where possible but look out for questions that are asking specifics questions and answer these seperately but don't labour too long on these questions as you run the danger of out narrating the relevance.

Another idea that might make your name stand out better is to perhaps drop a call to the recruiter to embolden willing on your behalf.

    Regards.

The top complaint from recruiters is that they see cut n paste application form answers and they can tell straight away whether an applicant took the time to answer it properly or just lifted it from a previous form.
I'm not suggesting that you redo every answer but at least read them through and make sure you have addressed the question properly. Otherwise you are just wasting everyone's time as well as your own.
It's not about volume, it's about well researched, quality applications
And get someone to check each application thoroughly before you send them, sometimes it is just small details that will get you noticed.
There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.

most hotel accounts jobs are held by people with little, if any accounting qualification...
  • OP forget about qualifications, how many years accounts experience do you have?

Sorry, in Finance qualifications are important. The problem is that you are up against people in the industry that have qualifications and experience. I have both and found it really tough to find a job at the moment. I applied for everything for about 3 months and got two interviews in that time. Luckly, I got the job for one of them.

What sort of accounts roles are you looking for?

What agents have your registered with?

I have worked with an FC who is now an FD of a big co in London who is not qualified at all.

At my last job the supervisors nor anyone in the team other than the MA's and the FC was qualified. They would not consider anyone for ledger roles/cashier/supervisor who were as they were looking for expereince over quals.

Depends is the OP is wanting to be an FD, FC or an accountant as to qualifications etc.
  • I don't doubt what you are saying misssarah, there are people in the industry that do not have qualifications.

But when applying for a role in finance, I bet 8 out of 10 times the essential criteria for the role will be qualifications. you don't meet that, you've fallen at the first hurdle.

OP, I think you put that your are at knowledge level ACCA, is that right? Spell out in your applications that this is the equivelent of AAT level 4 (Technician), as some employers are clueless on how how each qual relates to each other.

As you are public sector experienced, I assume you are looking at the following websites, you'll be perfect for a lot of these

    https://jobsstatic.civilservice.gov.uk/csjobs.html

    www.jobs.nhs.uk/

Also look at your local fire/police service website.

I've been mostly looking at Finance/Accounts Assistant type roles in the 25-30k bracket.

Off the top of my head I'm registered with Redhat, Randstad, Edward Mann, Venn Group and Marks Sattin all based in Central London.

Most of the interviews I have managed to get have been off my own back though applying direct to companies either finding the roles on their company websites or advertised on LinkedIn, Indeed, Monster, etc.

Thanks - Yes I've been looking at all those websites, also on charity websites too but just having no luck.

In the ACCA I have completed F1, F2 and F3. It is listed pretty much at the top of my CV that I am studying and have completed my knowledge module but doesn't seem to help at all.

A lot of the roles I am applying for even state 'at the beginning of their studies' or 'offering study support' and I'm just wondering if I'm overqualified for these roles.

Same here - only got interviews direct with companies and nothing via agencies yet with 20 years exp I am also looking as low as NMW. 25-30k is a good salary for someone with a number of years experience. 30k mark is more like a team leader of a supervisor role
