Redundancy notice

Ive been given my formal notice of redundancy and i am having trouble working out the amounts that i have been given. I should have had five weeks notice but the company has decided to just end my employment more or less straight away.
My payments include 5 years redundancy pay (gross pay for five weeks)
One off Voluntary payment by company
Compensation for loss of notice.

The last one im confused about as it says it reflects the loss of net pay i would have received during my notice period. But when i tot up the figures it doesnt add up to 5 weeks net pay. It seems to be short in the region of £50.

eg £180 net pay.x5wks =£900
notice pay=£850

Ive rounded figures up for simplicity but i just wondered if im right in querying it or for some reason are they allowed to reduce the amount. i dont want to kick up a stink about it in case i lose the voluntary payment if the company arent pleased with me arguing the toss about it.

Any ideas welcome

I (may) be in the same boat as you, I would check about redundancy law on a goverment site, Im sure a company has to pay you in Lieu of notice ie:1 week for every year you have worked, but dont quote me on it.

You should have had a redundancy consultation meeting explaining everything to you, also you could try citizens advise, they may be able to shed more light on it. Hope you manage to find another job quickly as well.

I agree that you should get on the government site and check what you are entitled to. You could also ring up the Redundancy Payments Office, tel number on the site. They should give you 5 weeks pay as a redundancy payment and 5 weeks pay in lieu of notice. The £50 shortage may be deductions for tax/insurance but the Redundancy Payments Office are the people to ask

  • Hi there, I was made redundant last year and I seem to remember that there is a ceiling on pay for the lieu of notice payment. You should get a booklet from the DTI about redundancy and entitlements, which you can possibly order from the website. It is confusing!

FWIW I was made redundant last year and you are paid different rates of redundancy depending upon the age you are during full years service - the links are on this site to the website I found about it.
