Hiya
I went to sainsbury yesterday to do my food shop. I don't normally shop there but nearly fainted when my bill came to £115:eek: I didn't buy anything of real extravagance, just the usual stuff. I find sainsburys very expensive!! Its gonna be lidl from now on! Does anyone else find them extortianate?

I have done recently. I used to shop only at Sainsburys but have definitely noticed some price increases. Of course, there are price increases everywhere, but Sainsburys no longer comes cheapest for my shop on MySupermarket, Asda do. The only problem with that is that I really don't like Asda meat and so I do my shop there but OH stops at Sainsburys and picks up the meat for the month. If I can convince him to go to Aldi, he will pick up the fruit and veg there and so it's really only ambient and non-food that I get in Asda.
Before anyone suggests it, I have considered my local butcher in the village, but his prices are extortionate and his minced meat is dreadful. If I happen into Sleaford, there is a butcher there that I will use, but he's in the centre of town and so OH doesn't go there often and I go in even less!"A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper

It is more expensive but better quality I find. I do only buy reduced/on offer produce tbf.
What did you buy? Perhaps we can share tips on cheaper things in Sainsburys/other places?0 -
I find that the quality of the organic meat in Sainsbury's is usually as good as Waitrose's but not as expensive. The organic vegetables can be more expensive than even Ocado however.
ASDA organic veg is a good price and much cheaper than Sainsbury's but finding the stuff in my local store was a problem.
Not surprised that ASDA works out cheaper than Sainsbury's on mysupermarket as years ago, with receipts, notebook and calculator we worked out that ASDA averaged 14% less expensive than Sainsbury's for us.0 -
I always either pick my meat up at Smithfields in London on the way into work, the savings can be enormous depending on what you are picking up. I normally get a tray of chicken breast for £18 for about 22-25 of them and they are far bigger than the ones in the supermarket. Get a slab of sirloin and ribeye for about £36/£26 respctively and slice them up to my thickness at home.
If I dont have time to do smithfields then I always get my meat from Morrisons, seems the best out of all the supermarkets.
I do my other shop at Asda0 -
I find they hide the bargains in sainsburys i have found bread sauce in the wine isle ice cream in the veg freezer and meat in the pudding freezer.0
