I may sound like a numpty here so bare with me. I have been given a load of jam pot covers, Wax seal, clear flim cover and elastic bands. Am i right in thinking that if I use these I dont need to use normal lids?
This would help me out no end as half my lids have gone missing.

Yes that will be fine.
Any more queries re jam would be best posted on Old Style Moneysaving part of the forum, but the wax disc goes on top of the hot jam then the cellophane and elastic. Just check the elastic bands are in good condition, as rubber can perish.
Not a numpty BTW. I would never have made jam if I hadn't had someone to advise me!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

it's worth wetting the side of the cellophane that 'sticks' to the hot glass. What I would add to the above is that it is fine to do this. However, you can't ever lay the jars down in a hamper or such. Also while most jams will easily last 5 years without going off, bugs will get into these because the cellophane (like the elastic bands) will perish in time; however if they are just for you or a small batch they'd be fine.
If you would prefer to use lids, you can just buy lids from Wilkos/ Lakeland/ cookshops. I find these are around £3 for 10 and they are merely my preference.Sealed Pot Challenge #1666 - up for raising as much as poss0 -
Thanks for the help. Im going to use them to cover so small jars. I have a load of baby food jars but cant find any of the lids. At least I know I can still use them.0
