Avoiding 2013 prices rises for annual travelcard

Last year when I tried to renew my travelcard in December at 2011 prices I was told I couldnt do so because the price is related to the first date of your new travelcard not when you buy it.
This year I am trying to dodge the same again, tried googling to see if I can hold more than one card so can I buy a new travelcard on a new oyster card in 2012 and then just let my current one expire but nothing is coming up?
Anyone have any idea or alternatives?

If no-one expected shirts to be ironed then we'd all have time for more important things:T

How far into January does your current card expire? Is it after the prices officially go up (usually approx 2nd Jan)? For many years I have had a card which has expired on Dec 31st or occasionally Jan 1st. I have always been able to renew it at Dec prices and avoid the increase for almost another year. I do the renewal well before Christmas.0 -
But if you leave a month unused that's like paying 8% extra anyway, or can you obtain a refund on the unused time?0

I don't leave any unused/lose any days because they include the remaining days on the new card. So for example i renew on approx 19th December, pay for a year and have a card which expires the following December 31st. I think this option is only available to passengers buying the annual gold card.
Every year in early December, a poster appears in the tube stations to encourage passengers not to wait until Dec 31st or Jan 1st to renew.0
