How to fix this snowglobe

Options
My 5 year old has broken the stand on a new snowglobe. It's on a stand just like this one and has broken at the narrowest part of the stand.

I think it's made of resin. The snowglobe is so, so heavy that just gluing it back together won't support the weight. I'm happy to mould some sort of clay on the outside and then do something clever to disguise it. It has a snowy christmas tree inside the globe.

I don't know what to use to repair it or disguise the join. Can anyone help please?

  • do you know someone who is good at wood work?

I once broke the bottom of a special stemed glass. so only the stem and the top of the glass was left, I was so upset, my dad took a nice round peice of wood and drilled a small hole in the top and glued the stem into it..

i had that for another 10 years or so untill one of my kids knocked it of the shelf and smashed it....

  • Ooohhhh, thank you, I hadn't thought of using internal support. Would I be able to do that with the stand being made of resin? It has an almost clean break so would need drilling or hollowing out somehow....

If it's a solid resin then you should be able to carefully drill it (the hard part will be ensuring your holes are perfectly aligned) and use a dowel rod to give it the central support it needs and then glue it.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  • Would superglue work?

Sorry to be so dumb! :o

I would endorse what kitschkitty says. as for the Glue then Pinflair Glue Gel is better than superglue! Collall also make a similar glue gel and both should be available at DIY stores, Craft shops and some Dept stores like Wilkinsons. the globe may need to be 'supported' for an hour while the gel 'goes off' and then leave it overnight. (could I suggest putting the globe in first into a box of shredded paper or on a bean bag and then glueing the base on?).

You could try a local trophy shop. They often have contacts with wood turners to make special trophy stands, or they may have a part that would do the job.

  • Thank you for that idea Mrs Arcanum. I'll ask at a couple of places next week. Failing that, I'll have a go myself.
