If not self delusional, what would you call it? Mistaken?
You might be 'happy' but anyone who bought a solar HW system, believing that your silly claims had any validity at all, would not be.0 -
Cardew, why are you going on so. If someone can afford to spend on the solar system just let it be. I wouldn't have thought their first thought is money saving.............
You sound like someone who would like to have a solar system, can't afford one, so have a rant at those who can !0 -

In case it has escaped your notice, this is a Money Saving site.
In your short post you have demonstrated that your powers of deduction are lacking on at least 2 counts.0 -
And you've proved you're a wind up merchant!0

Would it not be better if you contributed something constructive about Solar water heating to this thread.0 -
I am in the throes of deciding to put this on my self build house, and cardew's point of view is very valid, especially if the end price goes on your mortgage.
The good thing about solar hot water heating is that it is free to run, unlike ground (or air) source heat pumps. This signature is not mine!0 -
Cardew is doing a really good job shooting down the cowboys who are circling the well meaning green lobby.
However, if and it is still a big if, global warming is "the biggest problem we face this centuary" ("Chief scientific officer" in charge of another dodgy dossier?) and if the government commitment to our EU partners to "save 20% by 2020" (it is like stopping WW1 on the 11 day of the 11 month geddit?) is more than greenwash, YOU every one of YOU, have to think of a way of saving your share.
Step one is to stuff or coat your house with all the insulation you can manage.
That is unlikely to save you 20 percent as most people go "Oh this is nice" and wander about in a "T" shirt long after they should have put on their long-johns.
So far we have been offered a little carrot in the form of grants but expect some sort of big financial stick, it appears an avoidable tax will be coming to whip us into line ?.
Inspite of Cardew's warnings, I am still investigating Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP) I've managed to find two nice MSE people who already have one of these beasts. So if you know anything about GSHP's please feel free to send me a Private Message.
This message comes to you from my self build home of 30 years ago, a Cardew of that time, told me I was completely off my trolley, when I put in 6" of insulation in the loft. I would never show a return on the investment. He would have been spot on if I had moved within 7 years, which is the average for a twenty something buying for a second time; but I'm still here - two extensions later! "Live as if you are going to die tomorrow but farm as if you are going to live for ever" because the energy efficiency data base is coming for every home.
Harry,
Now where have I tied up my horse........?0 -
even though i hate to agree with cardew : solar panels is just not cost efficient *at the moment*.
i've looked into it (based in SW of country, with house of five and lots of energy bills) and i can't finacially justify it!What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
or spell - sorry! What goes around - comes around
