How would employer B know about employer C? You think there is a secret forum they all post names of someone who went back on a job acceptance?

When people renege on any commitment let alone a legally binding contract of any kind, it is usual that one party is fairly agrieved and although they may not sue, they may not take things lying down either and just not accept the change of circumstances excuse. They may suspect that there is another firm involved and wrongly assume that that firm is up to tricks in that they agreed to basically stealing someone who had been contracted to join them. In which case the firm that the OP reneged on would certainly not hesitate to ring the firm they are losing the OP to and give them their opinion of them. Two firms very annoyed because of one person reneging on a commitment.

Not what I said, I didn't disagree that some employers would be !!!!ed off, the same as employees will be !!!!ed off if a job is pulled form under them. However there is no feasible way for a jilted employer to find out about a new one. They would be wondering into a lot of trouble if they were ringing up all the HR departments in the area 'Has X applied to you?' even more trouble if they add something negative to that.
  • Thanks for everyone's post. Some of the stuff has really concerned me the other stuff has put my mind at rest :rotfl:

I have not told company B yet because I do not have any written offer or contract from company C - only verbal. So as soon as I do I will let company B know - I know that this is not very nice for company B but I need to also protect myself.

Company C does know about company B - in fact they fast tracked the interview, assessment and offer process and even moved the start date for me to the 26th and matched the salary to retain me.
