Employment help required

When I started my job I signed a contract stating that I would manage three separate sites.

Three months ago my employer decided that for two of these sites they would employ someone just for these sites.

I applied for this position as the salary was a few thousand higher, however I did not get the job.

Over the last couple of months I have not been required at this site due to the new person being employed. Recently however, my line manager has insisted that I go to this site to 'help' the new person as 'they don't know what they are doing'.

Do I have any rights in saying that this is not my responsibility, as they have employed someone else to do this job?

I feel as though I am being used by my employer without getting the benefits for it - after all, the new person is getting paid more than me, but I am still expected to do the work.

  • That happens in all jobs - do the work or you are not a team player even though someone may be your senior, on more money etc. I have been there and then you still do not get a pay rise to make up for the extra work you have done. So what do you do? Do it and say nothing? Tell them you wont and they sack you or just do it and look for another job?

The answer to your question: It is very unlikely you could say "No, it is not my responsibility".

That is because your employer has asked you to do something and it is not unreasonable for them to ask you to do it as it is something which you must be capable of doing as it was your responsibility before.

I can see you going really far with this company.
