I dont drive so I assume this is a good deal? If there are any catches then please let me know and I will alter the post. I assume they may try to sell you the parts but at least it may make people aware if there are any probs.

  • Thanks for this! I pass my test on Monday and have a rustbucket to drive around in, so this would definitely be a great way of having it checked over for things I know nothing about. The only thing is, I don't know how likely they are to 'expect' me to get everything sorted on the spot, and at the moment I can't really afford anything. It would be more about just knowing what needs doing and then trying to prioritise. As a new driver this could be really educational but I have no idea if it's a good idea for me or not.

Has anyone used these services before? Is there any benefit to getting everything sorted at the time? Do they expect you to do that or is it perfectly acceptable to fess up and say I'm just interested in getting the issues identified to address at my own pace?

We had a similar thing for free from RAC. The only issue was the battery and they wanted to charge £90 for a new one. We said thank you very much for the advice and our garage got us a new one for half the price.

If you are driving in a car with a lot of issues then I would get the check done and just tell them you can't afford to get the problems sorted at the moment and then either do the things yourself or find someone who can. Most of the checks you can do yourself though to be honest. I have no idea about cars but can check the coolant and oil myself. Things like the lights and wipers you should check regularly and very easy to replace. Just look on the internet.
  • Just a quick update - I went through the website and 'booked' a check, along with a diagnostic read as my engine light is on, and got a text 3 days later saying that the garage I chose (from their list!) does not carry out the checks. I'm wondering if because I didn't book anything paid for, that they suddenly decided they didn't do them...
  • same thing for me as well . I just got a sms saying the garage I selected is not a Bosch ANY more. seems a big con to me :)
  • I didn't even get a sms. Tried booking again with a second nearest garage and they didn't get in touch either.
