I've been having a look around already. Just as an estimate for how much I could save.
I currently spend £63.40 per month and the best quote I've got puts that down to about £35 per month. So I can see a good saving if I shop around. I have Mum on insurance to which does help.
I have a week off work at the beginning of May and I'm going to spend a day sort this out and getting quotes, I didn't shop around last year and think I really should have done :mad:Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
You really don't need to spend a day getting quotes. When you get your new swanky broadband up and running you'll be getting your quotes in in an evening.
Your Mum will have to check you still live with her if you're anything like me- you'll just be glued to the forums all night! Do think about trying to save enough to pay for your insurance outright. I knew someone clever would be able to give you the link for breakdown cover. Also don't forget to have a good look around at quidco and rpoints and pigsback.
Another thing you could do is to start selling any tat that you have. If you have acumulated lots of stuff it is very hard to know what you have. People often find that the the less they have the less they need.
I used to have a wardrobe bursting with cheap clothes which didn't suit me but I didn't think I could spend any money on stuff. I then realised that just because I get chest pain paying for clothes in next, some people don't. They then put my lovely new wardrobe into the charity shops for pennies!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

As for selling tat... I have enough to start a small business!! Perhaps that's something else I can do during my week off that wouldn't cost anything. I've never had much luck at ebay, but I'm sure someone would want it. 19th April is 10p listing day. You could hold a clothes swapping party with your mates? Boot sales aren't always that great. It really depends what you have. If you have good quality clothes then why not sort out your wardrobe and put aside everything that makes you feel a million dollars. The rest of it needs to go- if still good quality then sell through dress agencies or ebay or bootsales whatever really! Once you have got down to your basic wardrobe you will find it less hassle to choose an outfit and buying clothes will be easier and cheaper because you know what you already have that goes with it. If you find any clothes that still have tags in then you could always try to return the items to the shop you bought them from.
Listen to your Mum, us Mums are the best!
When you get home tonight grab a timer (any sort doesn't matter), set it for 15 minutes and sort clothes for that time. 3 piles love it and keeping, crap for recycling, somone elses treasure. Then when you've done that for 15 minutes get someone who's opinion you really trust to sort through your love it pile with you. If they don't think it's right for you ditch it.
Do this for 15 minutes at a time and you will make real inroads by the time you're off in May and will have time to get everything laundered neatly to maximise your profit and you wont have to spend your whole week off doing boring stuff!
When you get some money back chuck it at one of the debts. Keep doing this and you may be able to beat the snowball!

I suggest a black bag party - get a group of friends together. Everyone brings a bag full of stuff they don't want anymore (clothes, makeup, DVD's, books - absolutely anything).
All the bags get emptied into the middle of the floor and each item held up in turn - if someone wants it, they get it. If two people want it, it goes in a pile to be argued about at the end. If no-one wants it, it goes to charity or to a car boot sale where everyone gets an equal share of the profits.
Its a fun way to get new stuff free and to make money with the stuff left over. Its wonderful for skint students!
