Free sample paper?

Good evening all,

My lovely Fiance is a third year fashion student and is currently doing a project requiring paper samples of every variety and quality.

Unfortunately nice paper is costly and all of the websites i have come across so far ask for postage. At £1.50 each it would be very expensive to get them from such websites (as students neither of us can really afford it).

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any places where free paper samples could be obtained? I realise there may be no such place but if there is then you can always bet the trusty MSE community will know where it is...:rotfl:

I do also apologise if this thread is in the wrong place. I spend most my time on the freebies/comps and student forums so i had no clue where to post this. I thought there was an arts and crafts section but i couldn't find it :(

Thank you all for your help and i look forward to reading your suggestions

Mathew

  • you can get wall paper samples from diy shops, also try freecycle - quite often there are people clearing craft resources on our local one - that she may be able to get a few bits from.

aso think out of the box, wrapping paper, pretty paperbags from gift shops, brown wrapping paper, envelopes, other types of wrapping - e.g. posh soaps are sometimes wrapped in handmade type papers.
  • Go and talk to a local commercial printer - they'll have loads of samples that have been given to them by reps from paper companies trying to sell them stuff and they may be happy to give her some old ones or ones that they don't intend to buy. I used to work in the print industry and had shelves of samples for things I knew I would never use and would end up in a recycling bin eventually so I would have happily given them away.

Also, depending on where in the country you are and how quickly they are needed, there are a number of print industry exhibitions that go on that you can get free tickets to by registering online and there are always loads of suppliers there giving away samples...I've been out of the industry for a while so not sure when/where the next ones are but I expect google will provide some reports. (there used to be a regular one called Northprint in Harrogate and another big one at the NEC but I can't recall the name of that one!).
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
