I want to add my tuppence worth if it helps.
If he has pain in his heels which is really painful after he has been sitting down and then gets up to walk, then it sounds like what I have which is plantar tendon fasciitis. Usually it is caused by wearing shoes which are too flat and not supporting the feet very well.
I got a pair of Orthaheels from Boots which I wear inside whichever shoes I am wearing outdoors and put them straight into my slippers when I get home. Never, ever walk about in the house with bare feet or in socks. Wear slippers or indoor shoes with a decent heel to them. The Orthaheels cost around £23 but very well worth it (have to say I was delighted the day I went in and got the one pair in my size that were reduced to £5!).
If it is a case of hard skin or whatever, then go with the suggestions above.
Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

I take it posties get given shoes as part of their uniforms? If not, could he not just go to a walking shop and get fitted for proper walking shoes. I have a plain pair that I can get away with at work in winter.

    hi
my huby is a full time postman, he has very sore heels as he walks miles everyday. he need sometime to cushion his heels, like a shock absorber.
we tried the gel cushions you put into shoes, but they move too much and my huby doesn't like them.
does anyone have any suggestions on products that can help and where to buy them?
    thank you

    Is he wearing RM footwear?
When you say heels,is it a pain which makes him walk up on his toes,or just aching?

Try a podiatrist - they are clinical specialists for feet.

Has he talked to his Occupational Health Team at work?

sorry, but RM care little about the well being of staff. Trying to get access to OH is surprisingly difficult.

yes, he does get royal mail footwear as part of the uniform but he still has the pain.
its more like deep muscle/bone pain then surface pain.

My dh has also developed plantar fascitis this year, and increased his running and walking.

The saviour and the only thing that has worked have been MBT shoes.

They are hideous, truely hideous, but he is totally comfortable again, he plans to wear them for his running and walking always from now on.

Can he wear his own footwear? If so, I would suggest going to a good independent walking shop and try a few pairs of Merrells, then when he knows which style fit best, buy them online. Both DH and I wear them for our 8-10 mile pavement walks at weekends and I have had trouble with my feet for a long time, including blisters and have now developed an inherited age-related knee condition. Since I bought my first pair of Merrells in 2009, it is like walking in slippers. They last about 2 years on me & DH, and at £100+ full price they are not cheap, but it is worth it to be comfortable.

Unless it's changed since I worked there, you were only allowed to wear your own footwear with a letter from your doctor.

I would advise to see his doctor, could be he could be needing some insoles from podiatrist. RM boots are not the most comfortable in the world either.

He could also as for an ATOS assessment though Custardly, they may be able to help him out :rotfl: Or make recommendations to his manager....
