balliff / Someone trying to get me to accept a letter in person

Hello All

im a newbie in the forum in search of some help

I'm going through some stuff at the moment, in a nutshell, my company suffered a massive blow last year and had to cease trading, depsite all my best efforts i have been left with debts that I can ill afford, I have had countless debt letters and ccj's as a result and also baliffs visiting my home address ( i was a sole trader ) , I have follwed all the advice given and not answered any doors to balliffs or debt collectors, I have now reached the conclusion that I will enter in bankcruptcy to put an end to it, and am hoping to do this at the start of 2013, however today a man has come to the house at 7.30am and shouted through the window that he needs to give me a letter, I asked him to put it through the letter box but he said that he has to hand it to me in person,
i'm not coping with all very well and could do with some advice, does anyone know who / what kind of letter would need to be given in person ,
sorry for rambling - hope it makes sense

I believe that your best course of action is to apply for bankcruptcy now to avoid such further action. Speek with the bankcruptcy court to see what you need to do and do it. There is no point in waiting and if you incur further debt knowing that you cannot meet your commitments, you will be dealt with very severely.

If he returns ask him where he is from or who he represents. If you are not satisfied as to his status ignore him.
    ps don't make yourself ill.

you say you had a company.
Are the debts yours personally or those of the limited company?
If they belong to the company then they should die with the company with some exceptions and assuming you did nothing untoward.
You need only consider bankruptcy if they are your own personal debts.
Have you tried contacting business debt line or similar for advice?

    Wilma,

As you have posted this in the tax area can I ask do you owe ANY tax for Self Assessment ot VAT ?.

If this was a Field Force Agent for HMRC, they MUST identify themselves upon request - did you do this ?

Did they leave ANY correspondance for you ?

If HMRC are threatening you with bankruptcy and you dont oppose it, they will add the cost of the bankruptcy to your debt and make you bankrupt, saving you approx £700.00

Hope this helps & please post back if you need more help.
