Arrrggghhh Council Tax Liability Order - don't owe a penny!!!!!!

I have recived a letter from the local council saying I have a liability order for a debt of £129.17. This was a property I sold in February - I notified them by phone at the time, then by letter in March when a summons was issued.

Now I have a liability order and they are threatening bailiff action!!!!! I have drafted a letter which I will post tomorrow, and cc'd in my councillr, enclosing proof I sold the property. Where do I stand legally about getting this cancelled? Is it the council's responsibility or mine? I did not contact the court as I assumed the council would take the necessary action.

Please help before I explode with fury!!!!!

  • I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but i left a rented property and six months later recieved a letter saying i owed £86 from when i lived there. I argued but ended up paying them by credit card, being told they 'would look into it'. 3 weeks later i recieved a letter saying i was right and they were wrong and tellin me they would refund my £86. I thought it would be a credit on my credit card, but NO they took it off this years council tax. I wasn't happy about that but nothing i could do. Can you pay the amount and hope they give it back to you, just to keep the baliffs off your back?
Coucillors can be good on cases like this.
Sorry i can't actually be of any help, but im sure someone knows more that me.

Sorry I can't help either but I got done over by them too. I contacted them to say I was no longer a student, paid the extra and had a flood losing the proof. 2yrs later they issued a summons and I ended up with a ccj because of the damn council. I ended up paying it twice. Never again will I pay the council in cash. Standing order every month for me and then I have proof!
