last year at the end of the year we had a outstanding amount for our council tax of £490
they sent us out a form to fill in and return offering a payment plan this we done
however i have got home this evening to find a hand delivered letter from a baliff for the £490 outstanding + a £24.50 fee for todays visit.
i dont understand what is going on we have done everything they have asked us now they have sold the debt to this guy without telling us what is going on now this guy wants £100 up front then to arrange a payment plan
where do we go from here.
I know its a debt and i wont to pay it as soon as i can but this as really got my back up

you can really do alot until you have actually paid it off. Try this. do not communicate with the bailiff and keep alert 24/7 only open the door if you know who it is and also when the bell rings check from upstairs who it is. keep all windows locked and also put a chain on your front door !!!!ONLY COPY WHAT I AM DOING IF YOU ARE 100% SURE AND YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE END RESULT MAY BE. ALWAYS CONSULT A PROFESSIONAL BEFORE FOLLOWING MY ADVICE. I AM NOT LEGALLY TRAINED . IF WHAT I AM DOING HELPS YOU IN ANY WAY CLICK THE THANKS BUTTON0

Did you get a "notice of intention to remove goods" ? or similar, if not then tell the bailiff where to go and speak to the council to restart payments if possible.0

The debt hasnt been sold it has been given to the bailiffs for collection as the council have tried unsuccessfully to collect direct from you...
You do not have to let the bailiffs in... You need to read the factsheet which can be found on National Debtlines website so oyu know your rights when dealing with the bailiffs...
You could contact the council and see if they will recall the account and set up a payment plan... They will probably say deal with the bailiffs though this is why you need to read the factsheet..
Do not let them in your house and if you have a car that is not on HP be very careful aas they can clamp it...
In the meantime pay what you can - direct to the councilHi - im a member of the Debt Help UK FORUM...0
