John Lewis - trying to delivery my washing machine

ok, we live out in the middle of nowhere, lanes etc, and I am expecting my washing machine to be delivered today, I have had the driver on the phone (after me giving him directions to the easier way to get to us), saying that he is lost and trying to describe where he is, he has gone the wrong way. He has suggested next Tuesday as a new delivery day, and is that ok, and saying that we should have requested a small van to deliver it! Never before have I requested this from a delivery company, and we've always had a delivery take place. I have said could they please try and deliver it as I am desperate for the machine (2 weeks' washing piling up!), I understand if the van is absolutely huge, but really I think that he maybe not trying hard enough!

Well it was just delivered, I think they made a meal of it really, their lorry was no bigger than other ones that have come here! I am just thankful they didn't turn back, they were complaining about the entrance to my drive (they had to park in the lane - which happens a lot, it's just what happens, my neighbour's drive entrance is the same), and the mud etc - and it is not even raining today! You would have thought they had never seen the countryside before and they only came from Exeter!0

John Lewis are really funny about deliveries, I worked for them for a while and if you live anywhere that's considered to be countryside or outside of main areas then they won't use their John Lewis delivery vehicles, the sales assistant doing the order has to select a delivery through an external company, and it had another name, something like 'small van' or something, which is probably what he meant! At least you got it though :-)0

Yes I am just glad to have it - I feel 'lucky' they delivered it!, they turned it into a bit of a drama that didn't need to be. A big 'John Lewis' lorry turned up, coming from the direction and was the 'more difficult' way!
Never had a problem with Currys, Argos etc in the past - now have second thoughts on using John Lewis again, well maybe will, but will specify NARROW LANES, DIFFICULT ENTRANCE TO DRIVE, SMALL VAN NEEDED! with my order lol
You'd think they would assess all areas that they agree to deliver large items to.0 -
Enjoy your new wm, at least its a dryish day today0

Yes, thank you, I will - it's always nice having a new machine. It's a bit of a shame I have to wait until my oh comes home to plumb it in and it's a lovely sunny, breezy clothes-drying day!0

I bought a dishawasher from John Lewis earlier this year and had major delivery problems. I also stay in the country although there is no problem with getting a lorry to me.
On the day they called for directions, then took the wrong road and were sitting at the end of the road when one of my husbands drivers stopped to ask them if he could help. He showed them the correct way and was astonished when they announced they weren't going to bother going any further as the it looked like a little country road. The driver then told them he was actually going past my house to our yard and as he had an articulated lorry and trailer which could negotiate the road easily there should be no problem with their little box van.
The weren't interested at all though and later called me from their depot to say they couldn't find me. They obviously didn't think our driver would sneak on them.
Needless to say I won't use them again!0
