Hello Everyone,
For those of you who don't know me my name is Scotty and me and my partner plan on reducing our wasted food and stop being so luxurious with it too by spending £1 a day for a year on it.
We have also been in a process of building our own veg patch (which is doing very well hope to have stuff to eat in Spring) and reduce everything we use and want.
Today has hit me hard.
I had 2 tanks one is a 45 gallon 4ft marine tank and ones a 50cm fresh water one. They do not really require much electricity to keep them going maybe about 8p per day which would be like £268.80 for 10 years that's not taking into account the cost of electricity inflation and water changes needed max every 2 weeks costing £2 a time £480 for 10 years. £749 for 10 years.
OK now it doesn't look so bad but it's not NEEDED. I needed the £100 toward paying off some debt I'm getting out of for good!
I just didn't think that I would have such feeling of loss. I look at the pictures I used on Ebay and it brings me to tears now they have just come and taken away my babies.
Have any of you had a similar situation where you have had this same feeling from having to give something up to be better off financially?
It's a huge shock all that brainwashing the system puts you through to make the general public how they are... WANTY WANTY WANTY. It takes time and pain and effort to step away from it and revert to only having what we need and being ok by that but I know in all it is very rewarding.
Mine and Philips main goal is to move to Ecuador on farm land, create local jobs on the farm and let them take what they wish to sell on markets or for their family so long as we have enough to live on too. Be self sustainable and live with the least possible amount of money we can. That's long term but best to start now to prepare ourselves hey?
Anyway I just thought I'd have a rant and I'm kinda hoping someone out there will reach out their hand and say "it's OK kid I know how it feels you will be ok".
Thanks for reading everyone.

Hiya, it is sad when you make the move to change and give the things up you love.
For me it was my car. So handy to jump in and go.
Then there is the bills side...
Perhaps you should start a blog on your changing life?
Plenty of people would read it and offer advice.
Sending best wishesThe secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -

You will get plenty of moral support!!!! I read frugal Queen. Have a ganders on there. We all at some point had to give up on something weither it is something trival such as smoking or going out with friends. This can hit many people hard. We are down to one car and I only get it on a weekend. Also buying new clothes, you dont realise how much you miss these things, but you do get used to the idea over time and it will make you realise, did I ever need it in the first place???Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A

we also have a tank a tropical one, and we have to changed filters and we have saved a packet. We have our lights on a timer so they are only on from 2pm to 9pm. As that is when we have saved the most.Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A

Sorry to hear that you are feeling so down today.
I think you have been very brave and strong to make the difficult decision you did. Having that strength will, I feel sure, enable you to move towards the exciting future you are planning.
Just keep looking forward and not back and good luck :-)Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
Hi Scott
I gave up my car in January. It was for financial reasons too. I did miss it at first, but now I don't! I find that I don't get the urge to just "pop out" and spend money!
I too grow my own veg and herbs. There is nothing nicer than eating something you have grown.
If you are hoping to save on food check out this site: http://www.approvedfood.co.uk/ They do loads of things that you can stockpile for little money.
Good luck to you both!:TI Believe in saving money!!!:T

A blog would be a good idea. It is super fun! Really easy too. It is a good way to record your progress and get feedback.
I wouldn't get rid of a pet - I would sooner cut back on my own food! I never had fish but had some adorable hamsters!0
