Cornflour Cake

Hi, I am looking for a recipe for my Mam for a cake my Gran called Cornflour Cake. Mam says it looked like Maderia cake but was almost white in colour and not the yellow colour that Maderia usually is.I can't work out how it was so pale as when you have butter or marg and eggs in a cake surely it will go yellow IYSWIM. Any suggestions?
