Claiming Tax back from Australia... 2 years on

in Cutting tax
Hey friends. I did some work out in Australia in 2009 for several months, and paid around 1000 dollars in tax. I know I am entitled to claim back some if not all of this.
I have downloaded the online application from the ATO but it seems to be looking for that years figures only.
Is it possible to claim this tax back two or three years late? I don't want to go to one of those "we'll get your tax back" companies.
Many thanks, David

Presumably you claimed relief for the Aussie tax on your UK return so you would end up owing the same amount to HMRC if it was refunded because you'd have to repair your UK tax return.0

Yello. Nope I haven't done that. I was led to believe that I can keep the money I earned and the tax too. Many people have done this, anyone any experience of it?0

I think we need to know a bit more about your personal circumstances, income from all sources and residence(s) in the priod 2008 -> 2010, before an accurate answer can be given to your question.
I got away with letters that basically said "I am a student, I have done some casual work and had tax deducted. Give me back my money" but that was in the 1960s - all these systems have been "computerised" since then and the rules are thus much more complex and accurate now.0
