Bread - what flavour with prawns?

Options
Hi folks!

I need some help with bread-making…

DH and I have a tradition of having prawn sandwiches & white wine whenever there is an England rugby union game on TV. When he makes the butties, it’s almost always ciabatta, or sometimes baguette. These are very nice, but I feel we could do with a new & improved sandwich, and as it’s my turn on Saturday I was thinking about making a flavoured bread in the BM.

BUT…what flavour? It has to be something that won’t overpower the prawns (which are in h/m marie-rose sauce with paprika and finely chopped parsley) but will complement them.

Please help!

I've been making more flavoured bread lately, i've got sage and mint almost growing like weeds so been chopping them and they're both nice, Yesterday started to make bread and as i put the margarine back in the fridge there was a big tube of tomatoe puree looking at me so i tried that. It was Ok but think i put a bit much in, try again but with less,

That's just what I was thinking :) Marie Rose is tomato based so a nice tomato bread would really complement it.

What about small open sandwiches made with wheaten bread? The wheaten really compliments the prawns and it's so easy to make. Just top with a little bit of lettuce and your prawns in marie rose sauce.

This is my step mum's recipe and it's the quickest, easiest, tastiest bread in the world.

Thanks Pink - however, we eat our butties on the sofa, wearing white England shirts, in front of the TV and if anything exciting (!) happens DH might miss his mouth with an open sandwich!

That sounds a fab recipe for a more genteel sandwich though ;)
  • One of my favourite sandwiches is Prawn Salad with sweet chilli mayonnaise - would a little bit of chilli work in bread?
