Re Deeds: my mortgage lender sent me my paper deeds some time ago, with a letter explaining they are now held electronically at Land Registry and they no longer needed to hold them.

Re admin fees: I could possibly pay off my mortgage on 3rd Dec this year. I have been overpaying quite substantially for some time. My mortgage was a CAT standard mortgage, which I think means, among other things, there will be no redemption fee. I already know there can be no fee for returning me the deeds!

So I'm wondering whether the bank will try to charge some other kind of fee ;0

On the occasions when I have called to change my regular overpayment amount, they always go away and have to check whether there is any limit or fee payable for the (relatively large) overpayments I've arranged, and always they come back and confirm there is not (which I already knew) and I think this is down the to CAT standard again. More luck than judgment on my part!

Okay. Just been having a look at the Land Registry and it looks as if there are 3 sections of the title deeds available to download. Total cost would be £39.90.
So maybe if we pay the mortgage off, wait for a week or 2, then we could get the deeds ourselves.

In the first instance you may want to check that you were looking at the 'right' Land Registry site as our fees do not include pence?
The official Land Registry website is here and a copy of the title register is £3 to download and any other fees would be whole £s.

There are other websites, usually 'sponsored' ones on Google and other search engines but the services they offer can include obtaining the data from Land Registry along with additional information and you select the package you require. The sponsored links often come at the top of the page when searched and are marked as such.

You may also like to take a look at our FAQs re title deeds etc - these will not answer your questions re the admin fee as these are outside of our remit. However they will support and add to the information re deeds and safe-keeping provided by other posters above.

Thank you so much for that reply - extremely helpful!
I was on completely the wrong site. Normally I'm very careful about making sure I get on to the official site, but in this case I was wrong.
