Royal Mail interview...

Hi all, got a royal mail interview next week for a postman and was wondering if anybody had any advice, however little, would be a massive help.

Gradually doing some research on the questions ill likely be asked, but not feeling greatly confident, very nervous infact.

The position i have applied for is a 6 month temporary contract at 18 hours pw. I am currently in work as a delivery driver at tesco (been here 9 years) obviously a permanent position, with my contract being 30 hours pw.

Ill be more than happy to leave with the safety net of being allowed to return in some manner or another, however id much prefer to pursue a career with Royal Mail.

I am totally flexible 24/7 so any tips would be great.

Thanks Guys

Sorry as a former postie... I'm tempted to say stay where you are... but that might just be me. It's not the job it used to be. But if you want to go for it, good luck. Just go to the interview and be yourself.

My OH works for RM and his mail centre is being closed.. they're laying people off left right and centre so as for a long term career it looks doubtful I would say.

However make the best of the opportunity you can and best of luck.

    Hi.

I got mainly asked questions around customer service, team work and coping with manual work ( the last one I think because I'm a girl)

I was given a three month contract to start that was made permanent after a month. There's usually a shortage of postmen so they don't tend to get laid off. They do seem to be renewing contracts with another fixed term one rather than permanent ones at the moment.

Looks can be deceiving. Someone can look like a big strong (male) and still suffer from bad knees or back etc, so everyone will be asked if they are ok with manual work as it is a essential requirement.

  • My Hubby has been a full time postie for 10 years. If you say you are prepared will work any where in your city and don't mind driving and are customer focused I am sure you will be fine. You may have to take a basic english test. If you get the job and survive the first week you will be ok. The first week is always the worst as you get dropped in the deep end after a couple of days training.
    Good Luck
