Recruitment consultant job interview thurs, told must do presentation! HELP!!

Hi all,

Been told today that i have a 2nd interview for a recruitment job on thursday and they have now told me they want me to do a presentation!!

They said it doesnt need to be a powerpoint or anything like that, just on paper but i am really worried, they want me to put to them how i would start up a recruitment desk from scratch, how i would get businesss, candidates etc, what kind of marketing strategy i would use etc etc!!!!

I am in recruitment at the moment, but the company i work for are not very professional (small company) and i have only been here 6 weeks so dont have a lot of experience.

The company i am being interviewed by contacted me after hearing i was looking for work and were impressed with my CV and success in recruitment so far!

I REALLY want the job and i know they have done this purposely to see how i cope, the thing is i only have tonight to do it as i have comittments every other night and i dont know where to start!

They said they wanted some hand outs for the interviewers to read and go through with me, and i will also need some notes etc.

Is there anyone else in the business that can help? Any advice will be greatly received!

Thanks and look forward to some replies!!!

Regards

Feisty!:o

It's not about the presentation, but to show confidence and the ability to think on your feet.

Why not come up with a plan, practice with a friend and go along with a positive frame of mind :)

Do you know how to do any of these things?

Im interested in the answer too, recruitment is one of the things I often toy with wanting to do

Is this a well-known high street agency or a small one just setting up?

Are they picking your brains? Do they actually need free consultancy from you on ways they could improve their business?

    Sorry, I'm often a cynic!

One thing about handouts - if you did use PowerPoint, then Arial font is a good non-fussy one to use. However if you are providing printed hand-outs (not just PowerPoint handouts of the slides) and the text runs in full sentences rather than being in bullet points, I believe that a serif typeface (like Times New Roman) is actually easier/quicker to read. So I'd use that.

Regarding content - would you want to talk about good areas to find clients? You might want to comment on the reducing rate of company insolvencies. Hotel and leisure companies are not doing so well, I understand, so you might want to take the agency to develop its focus elsewhere.

Hi - do you have a Sales background? That helps a lot.

To be honest the questions you are asking are the 'I could tell you, but then i'd have to kill you' questions for the industry.

In your 6 weeks as a consultant have you really set the world on fire? I would prepare to field some very direct questions about your current employer.

I used to work in recruitment and had to do a presentation for my interview. Mine was for an IT recruitment agency, so that was what my presentation focused on. I was also told that I didn't have to do it on powerpoint, but I was told when I got the job it was my presentation which blew them away.

    Topics for my presentation:
    - IT sector in terms of growth and declining markets
    - Types of positions that could recruit for (eg software developers, technical support etc)
    - What I could bring to the company in terms of skills

Having had some recruitment experience, you could talk about the recruitment process (ie the stages you go through), how you source your candidates and clients etc.

I see that you're local, do you mind me asking who the company is and I may be able to give you more specific help.

Can't help with the content, but practice beforehand makes perfect! You will feel like a prat, but there's no substitute. Do it for a friend if it helps. Presuming this is a small group you'll be presenting to: try to make contact * with each person at some point. Don't gabble or mumble - make sure that if someone was sitting at the back of the room they'd also be able to hear you. And if you're writing on a flipchart or presenting from a flip chart or screen, don't talk while you've got your back to the audience ...

As my mum always said: "Remember the deaf old lady at the back ..."

    * Whoops I meant EYE contact!
