It is a really good book with lots of tips and each stage of the recipe has written and picture instructions . A good mix of sweet and savoury recipes that children would want to eat . I have made lots of things from it0

Ok thanks, just got that one0

You could do worse than a subscription to Good Food magazine. It has lots of pretty easy recipes, with some that are more difficult for her to try when she gets more confident.
And the bonus is that your grand daughter would get a selection of new recipes every monthI try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -

I've got the above book and it's great - lots of pictures and will last a lifetime - it covers everything!0 -
A couple that my lot borrow from my shelf:
1. The Be-Ro book
2. Delia's complete cookery book
3. Good Housekeeping cookery book
And i have no idea if it's even still in print but the one that gets bashed the most is Cesarani & Kinton's Practical CookeryAutism Mum Survival Kit: Duct tape, Polyfilla, WD40, Batteries (lots of),various chargers, vats of coffee, bacon & wine.0 -

I was going to suggest this one too.. I use it as a support worker, because it has pictures showing how to chop things and is simple enough to understand but not at all babyish... iykwim.today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.
Living on my memories, making new ones.

at 12 she should be capable of following basic recipes in a good cookbook. I would always recommend 'Good Housekeeping' recipe books. clear instructions, pictures and good basic recipes with no presumption of 'advanced' baking skills. and.......its a 'Proper' recipe book! she will use it for years! Ive had mine (and its in a sorry state) since 1977 and I still get it out time and time again - it seems to have a recipe and information for everything!0

I think I need one book for her and one book for me..cooking is not my thing!0

I'd advise one of the great How to Cook type books by Jamie or Delia that are widely available now. Am not a Delia fan myself, but it's supposed to be good - I really like the Jamie one though. They've all got step by step instructions and pictures the whole way through and at twelve she should be fine with the book and a little assistance here and there. It'll also stand to her much better than a book aimed at kids as she'll actually learn to cook all sorts of things well - it's a gift that keeps on giving.
I started cooking by myself around ten or eleven. Got a kids cookbook but quickly abandoned it in favour of my grandmother's old cookbook.0 -
If you have a Lid! near you, in their leaflet this week they are having three Annabel Karmel children's cookbooks from Thursday.......my DD has a couple of these (presents from Granny) and they are good for child friendly recipes.0
