Hi,
I recently purchased a 40" lcd tv. Does anyone know of a good electrician/tradesman who can install a lcd tv on the wall and can track all of the cables down the back of a cavity wall so the cables are hidden?
Thanks

Where are you & can you give a more detailed brief of what you need done (i.e. how far from mains / tv points to screen, what cables do you want hooked up to LCD etc... Sky, Cable, Games console, DVD, VCR etc...)
Have you already got a bracket ?
And you'll not be hiding cables in your cavity wall, you'd be recessing them into the inner leaf of brick by about 30mm which will then need plastered.
The dust created will be like a sahara sand storm ... please bear all this mind.
I've personally installed 100's of these from 15" up to 50" and people never fully understand what all is involved.0 -
I am in Glengormley.
I would need Sky and the Dvd player hooked up to the tv.
The tv will be about 5-6ft from the mains.
I dont have a bracket yet. I am getting the tv delivered today from Currys.
What price approximately would it be to get everything done?0 -
Ok so Sky & DVD will require 2 cables assuming you want them connected up seperately (i.e. AV1 & AV2 for example). You'll also need the TVs mains cable = 3 cables in total to come down your wall.
An electrician is going to want between £25 & £35 an hour + call out fee & tracking the wall, installing the cable, fitting the bracket should take about 3-4hrs.
Plastering your wall will need a plaster at about £50
The brackets range from £40 - £200 depending on where you buy it & what facilities you need etc...
You'll have lots of mess (dust like you wouldn't believe) and you'll need to repaint or paper your wall.
All in you're probably talking the guts of £250 inc. a straight fix bracket.
A half decent handy man could probably do it for about £180 (look the other way) ... cash.
Alternatively as it's only 3 cables, why not use some PVC trunking stuck to the wall, hiding the cables & saving any mess.
This could be done for about £130 inc. bracket & call out.
Hope this helps you.0 -
May not be what you want but would you not consider surface mounting the cables in a piece of conduit. I remember years ago thinking I was the bees-knees when I managed to hide all the cables to my hi-fi by tracking walls, behind skirting etc. It was wonderful until I had to replace one of the cables (it got surface mounted and the old one left behind).
ivanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
