Catering for a party

Hello

I know that getting caterers for a party probably isn't the MSE way, but I am 6 months pregnant and still working and don't won't to spend Friday evening and Sat morning slaving over a stove, when I could sit comfortably with my feet up! Can anyone recommend catering from a supermarket etc for 17? Have looked at M&S and they seem reasonable but wondered if anyone had used other places to provide catering and what they thought of them. We have Sainsburys, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons in the local area.

All help gratefully received (will now start  about the required birthday cake!!)

It all depends what kind of a thing you want, all will do sandwich platters etc best thing is to go into them and see what they offer - order enough for say 12 and then add in a couple of tubs of sausage rolls, a quiche and some crisps and it'll stretch further.

It's too long ago since I had them at a function so I can't remember what they were like but my friend used Sainsburys and was very pleased with them.

An alternative is to ask friends to help - ask one to do a green salad, one a pasta salad, potato salad, coleslaw etc and then buy bread rolls and cold meats/cheeses... it all depends what kind of a thing it's for.
  • At work we used Waitrose for all meetings etc and they were always very good and quite reasonably priced from what I remember. Although they're not in your local area there may still be one that delivers to you. It was normally just the sandwiches that we ordered but once or twice had the hot meals, ie lasagne and they were excellent.
