using up dried figs?

I sent my DH shopping and asked for 8 figs to make a salad with. There weren't any in the supermarket so I ended up with three huge bags of semi-dried figs!

Does anyone have any good ideas of what I can make with them? Maybe involving bakery in some way?

Thanks, I'm completely at a loss!

If you have cereal for breakfast they're yummy & very healthy just chopped on top. Another good healthy breakfast is chopped figs mixed with greek yoghurt & seeds and/or nuts sweetened with a little honey if you like.

That's the stuff for brekkie. In From Russia with Love, James Bond turns up at an Istanbul hotel and orders a breakfast of figs (admittedly green) yoghurt and coffee. Tried it ourselves a few times. Terrific. You can also shred figs to make ground coffee go further.

Hi Donna. I made this Date Slice on Friday to use up some dates, but next time I’m going to try figs as I have some of them in the storecupboard too. And we love fig rolls. The recipie doesn’t contain any sugar but I think it needs probably a couple of tablespoons, but that’s personal choice. It was still very nice and so easy to make.

    Date Slice

    8oz chopped dates
    7tblsp water
    1 teasp vanilla extract
4oz wholemeal flour (Ijust used plain white)
    4oz porridge oats
4oz soft marg (butter would taste better)
    1tbsp golden syrup.

Put the dates in a pan with the water and cool until very soft the cool.
Combine flour and oats rub in margarine then add (sugar if using) and syrup.
Press half the mixture into a lined 7”square tin spread over the dates and top with the rest of the crumble mixture and press down well. Bake 25 mins 200*c. Leave in tin to cool before cutting. I cut mine into 8 generous bars.

    HTH.

Huge selection of dried fig recipes on Waitrose.com. Other good recipe sites, also searchable by ingredient, are bbcgoodfood.com and deliaonline.com.

I found this recipe on an American site. May or may not be a fig roll, but sounds interesting:

The American name for Fig Rolls is Fig Newtons. Look at the following results page for recipe links:

I have to admit that I love to eat the things just plain out of the pack. Once I got too enthusiastic and ate quite a lot at one sitting.

Dried figs are just as good as prunes in their... effects, so I let you imagine the sort of evening I spent that day..
