Anxiety and the Disability Act

This is just a general query - not having any problems with my current employer, this is something I am interested in understanding a little more!
I have been signed off of work with severe anxiety and depression since July this year. I have had regular meetings with my manager and always provided sick notes from my doctor, who I also regularly meet with.
I recently had a telephone appointment with an occupational therapist and something was mentioned about the Disability Act. I just wanted to know really whether a condition like this was covered under the Act? I have tried doing some research online but unfortunately can't understand it well enough!
I'm just curious as well for any future roles I may apply for as applications tends to ask whether you have a disability or not.
Thanks!

It depends on how it affects you as an individual - the definition (under the Equality Act, which has superseded the DDA) is "a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long term negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities."0
