Switching jobs while trying to get a mortgage

Hi,
I have been in my current job for 2.5 years.I am currently in the process of trying to find a flat (and a mortgage) to purchase. I was advised that being at an employeer for a certain duration of time is prefered to get a mortgage.
I am potentially thinking of switching employers if I do not get the promotion I am currently expecting. It probably makes sense to try to get the flat and mortgage before switching jobs.
How long after I get the mortgage should I be ok to switch jobs (or does the bank at this stage not care).
