'Fair' Credit Score

Hi,

My credit report claims “You have no successfully settled non-mail order accounts”. It is the only ‘negative’ on my report (I have no positives!!)

I have lived in the UK for over three years, I am on the electoral register, I am employed, have a net income of over £50,000 per annum and I live in rented accommodation. I can’t get a credit card.

I have had laser eye surgery on credit, I completely repaid it, didn’t miss one payment, apparently they don’t deal with the credit agency when I asked them to state it on my credit record, I had a Tesco mobile contract for 20 months, completely paid off, I currently have a bill phone with 3 but that doesn’t appear on my account as a credit account. I have accounts with Sky, Thames Water etc, none of them appear on my report!

My bank account is with Lloyds. This is where the frustration is, I have had two meetings with my local manager, basically, the computer says no, she can offer me a £3000 overdraft but not a credit card!! I only need the card to use as a deposit when renting a car! (if I get one now though, I will use it to build up my credit rating) This is so frustrating! I then went to HSBC where the manager reviewed my bank statements, she seemed to be delighted I was willing to move my account and was sure I would get a credit card, computer said no again!!

Even the ‘credit builder’ cards which Experian have matched with my credit rating reject me!!

My credit score is ‘fair’, I have contacted Experian who were absolutely no help!!

I don’t think my credit score is ‘fair’

Any advice?

Yes, enterprise are accommodating as they accept two forms of I.D. and proof of address, however they aren't at every airport and and some close at weekends.

Having read through other threads I saw a recommendation for a Cap1 card and have just been approved!! Better get spending on it ASAP to establish myself in the credit market!!

Also mate its whats on your credit report that counts not the silly ratings they give you.

Lived in the UK for only 3 years could be the reason. Your best bet for a first credit card is usually with your own bank so you may have try with them again in 6 months or a year
