our freezer is tiny!

  • It's all about how you use that space.

You won't be able to buy 5 loaves of bread or 5 ready meals that you picked up for 20p each. But you can batch cook, maybe not 20 meals, but there is some space. I found that freezer bags worked best when short of space.

When I was studying I had the tiniest of freezers. I used to be able to keep ~5 portions of soup. I'd make soup 1-2 times a week and would freeze 2 portions each time. This meant I didn't have to eat the same thing every day. I could keep ~5 portions of stew/curry. Same as soup, I'd make some a couple of times a week and freeze some, meant I wasn't eating the same thing all the time. This meant when I got home late I always had dinner, the takeaway was never used.

I also kept frozen grated cheese, as I found when it was in the fridge I was eating too much of it. Finally, If I'd a lemon left over I'd freeze the juice and make lemon ice cubes - 1 ice cube was approx 1 teaspoon of juice. Similarly for any herbs, I would make icecubes.

It was all about not wasting anything I had. But I wasn't able to use it for special offers. Worked really well. I found I was always using it, and food got rotated through very quickly.
