Hello folks,
I'm tryinmg to troubleshoot my windows 8 installation which freezes just after startup and when I restart the computer the windows freezes and is worse than ever, so I have to reload my acronis image copy.
Trying to get rid of as many of the startup programs like comodo firewall and AVG.
Will windows defender and windows 8 inbuilt firewall be good enough protection-do you think as regards stopping virus and firewall protection?
Thanks very much for any advice.

ok ish, certainly lighter than what you had, but avast free and malwarebytes free (for on demand scans) is better imo!!

In Win 8 Windows Defender is a re-branded version of Microsoft Security Essentials - much different to the previous versions of Defender for Win 7, Vista etc.
It will provide good enough protection, at least whilst you troubleshoot the freezing issue - then you can install a 3rd party alternative if you wish.
I take it Windows Defender was disabled whilst these were installed?Trying to get rid of as many of the startup programs like comodo firewall and AVG0
