Christmas Cake Decorating

does anyone have any ideas what to put on top of icing on cake to decorate and were to buy a frill?

most of the supermarkets sell the frills in the baking section.
I can't really help you with what to do with the top as I'm only good at 'snow'
I have in the past though made a square cake, cut off one corner & stuck it on top of the cake to make a hill, decorated with 'snow' icing & put on a couple of sledging penguin ornaments we used to have.
Actually, just remembered that I copied a Living magazine ( I think) idea one year - used ready-rolled icing on a circular cake then made a 'wreath' of bay leaves dipped in egg white & sugar & fresh cranberries - I'll see if I can find old post re this.0 -
