Contact Lens Pricing

My daughter decided that she wants to wear contact lens. She went to her local independant optician. Normal cost of examination/test is £36 but since she is ordering the lens through them the test will cost £20. The lens she need are of Toric type. The monthly ones will cost her £60 for 3 months supply. The optician said the dailies will cost more per month than the monthly one.

Looking at the Asda website the same lens manufacturer and prescription is £40 for 3 months supplies. Why is there such a price difference? Is there any hidden cost I am not aware of?

I know that I have to pay the full £36 test to get a perscription if I am to order from Asda. Does the perscription last for a year?

Just need any info so when I see the optician next week I know what to ask etc.

Is Boots the same price as Asda? The Boots contact lens website no longer works.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

Boots merged with D&A opticians a short while ago, I get my lenses through Boots, the package I'm on is £20 per month and for that I get 2 pairs of lenses (I change my fortnightly), a bottle of solution, a lens case and all aftercare (year lens check etc). I get a delivery every 3 months whilst an individual payment is taken each month. I also get 10% off all Boots branded products in store.
I know cheaper packages are available but the service from Boots is unbelievably great. I prefer to get it all in one place as I know that the people I get my aftercare from know all about my lenses and optical history

I would ask about what aftercare is included with the lens package from the opticians. Always better to know you'll have plenty of accessible (and affordable) support there for any aftercare needs!

The cost difference is because multiples can buy in massive bulk and afford to make no profit, or even a loss to drive in customers.

I work in an independents and it costs us more to buy contact lenses from the suppliers who make them then if we were to buy the same lenses from a big chain shop! (obviously we can't do that!)

Just make sure they are the same make / brand / size / prescription and have regular contact lens checks :)

I am with D&A/Boots and am on their contact lenses by post scheme. I think it's worth it because I get free eye tests and glasses half price because I'm on the scheme. As I need new glasses every year I save a ton of money. The 10% off Boots products is also fab.
