I was wondering what do you give your childs nursery workers, teachers etc as a Christmas gift if you give one?

Home Made or shop bought ideas welcome :)

I'm not very inventive I usually go for Wine and a big box/tub of chocs. I thing they are surrounded by child created stuff all day so something a little luxury at xmas for them is nice,
  • I work as a key-worker at a preschool. If you feel the need to buy a gift chocolate e.g Roses, Quality Street can be shared amongst all the staff. We always have a tin open its a quick pick me up to keep us going till lunch. We never eat them in front of the children.
Do not buy 'Best Teacher' gifts, they are usually very expensive and they just end up in a charity bag
If your child is old enough to make a card or perhaps you could scribe what your child said what he or she likes about the teacher that would be just as great. I always keep those!
  • my son has just finished pre school but this is gifts we made his pre school teachers my dd who is in junior school also took them for hers.

handmade tote bag with hand prints on
    calendar with poem on
    plants
salt dough hearts with ribbons though to hang
    snowman poop

This is not true in every case. I work in a Pre-school and I have been given gifts with best teacher on, which I have kept as I remember each child who gave them and they mean a lot.

Chocolates are a nice gift, wine is if they drink (which not everyone does, I have donated bottles to my mum when I have been given them as I do not drink). I was given a Lush bath bomb a few years ago, which was a nice alternative to the chocolates we get.

I've just posted in another thread about this!

I work in a school and agree on the best teacher gifts, I don't tend to keep them:embarasse
I don't 'do' ornaments and have no room either at home or in the classroom to display them all! I always say thank you and make a big fuss, so the child would never know, but they are something I just don't need. I do keep letters and cards though, they take up little room and quite often have the nicest sentiments in them.
Home baked biscuits/sweets/cakes are usually put in the bin and this goes for most of the teachers/teaching assistants I know. When you tend to have seen little Jimmy sat with his finger up his nose or scratching his bum on a daily basis, it kind of puts you off;), we also have no idea of how "clean" it is at home and so I would much rather have a home made card than edible goods.

When the kids were at nursery there was about 8 teachers, so I just gave them a big box of biscuits for the staff room.

This year, for the two primary teachers I have bought them each a box of Thontons chocs. I don't get them 'best teacher things' because with 24 in a class - that's a lot of mementoes each year to find space for!

A couple of years ago, all the parents at nursery clubbed together, and bought the teachers a "staffroom upgrade kit" - it contained a nice new kettle, tea coffee and sugar containers, a set of nice matching mugs, some nice tea and coffee, and posh biccies. We also got them a framed picture to put up in the staffroom, with comments from all the kids about the teachers on it (things like Mrs X is good at cuddles, Miss Y makes me laugh, Mrs Z is good at reading stories, etc.)
The teachers loved it, it meant they didn't have loads of tat cluttering up the place, and it brightened up the staffroom (I was in there a couple of weeks ago for a meeting, and it's all still there!).
  • My dd decorated baubles for her pre-school and reception teachers, it costs not a lot, the child enjoys themselves and the teacher can either use it at home or add it to the school tree depending on them.

I just give them a case of wine to pop into the pot of gifts as they share them out between all the staff
