My outside drain blocked and I tried every kind of potion for unblocking it and no success so bought a set of drain rods worked a treat as they are so flexible and you can add extensions until you get to the blockage home bargains have some at the minute for around £12 i think hthOn the countdown mortgage will be paid off this year if I keep paying bit extra fingers crossed fully paid out by July :j0

Folks- how do you lift the drain cover up?
Is it not awkward?0 -
if it has no handles?
slip a large screwdriver or jemmy bar at the side and lever up0 -
I had to unblock my downpipe drain at the weekend. No access for drain rods, but the set I borrowed had a plunger attachment that eventually did the trick.0

manhole cover on private property should be "light duty" type and on new property should be plastic, easy lifted and if you clean round the seating it will sit back in without "dancing on it".0 -
I've just had this very problem. I called a very nice guy from Moira who did his best with it but eventually discovered that the pipe was cracked and blocked with roots from a nearby hedge. Had to call the insurance company. It's all fixed now. If you want the guy from Moira to have a look just send me a PM.0

Do these rods go round the u-bend in the underground pipe? I'm guessing not very well/far.
I've put my hand in as far as I can but it is still blocked up - black silty-type stuff. The drain actually is so blocked that the water will not go down it and when the washing machine is on it just flows over.
Any advice please as I think mine might be a bit different from other peoples compaint as the water doesnt really seem to go down.
(I had dyno-rod out maybe 2-3 yrs ago and they cleaned it with their power hose thingy but its backed up again.)
Thanks0 -

All drains will have the silty stuff in them but it will be on top of the blockage. If it's continually blocking then I think you should look for a cause.0 -
